Jim Santo moved from New Jersey to Indiana a few years ago. He found Indiana's hostile #commission rules problematic for customers and agents. Then his wife got sick, finding more problems with #LTCpolicies. bit.ly/37TE5VF

General Assembly returns, membership campaigns, INsure 2020, and more

The Indiana General Assembly is back in action for what is referred to as a Short Session because it is half has long as a Long Session. The Short Session is held in even number years and is designed to deal with non-budget issues because the Indiana General Assembly establishes a 2-year budget in Long Sessions. Short Sessions are also structured to Sine Die by mid-March as Short Sessions are also election years. All Indiana House members are up for election every 2 years whereas the Indiana Senate has 4-year terms.

This year’s Short Session is unusual in that it is packed with bills that are about issues near and dear to ISAHU members. Please look for ISAHU Legislative Chair Dwight Hall’s report on bills of interest for more details.

Membership! Membership! Membership!

NAHU and ISAHU are both conducting membership campaigns. Please refer all the carrier and vendor representatives you work with to the ISAHU website and insist that they become NAHU/ISAHU members if they want your business. Please forward this link to fellow agents and industry representatives that are not current NAHU/ISAHU members: https://isahu.org/become-a-member/

INsure 2020 Health and Benefits Expo!

It is now time to register for the biggest two-day event in the history of ISAHU. The ISAHU Board of Directors approved combining the very successful Medicare Summit and State Convention into one event that gives ISAHU members the best of all worlds with NAHU Certification classes – extra time to meet with sponsors and multiple breakout sessions allowing the biggest ever set of options for the CE classes you want to take. Classes are designed for both Medicare and Group instruction. Thanks to the tremendous financial support of our vendors, pricing is the same for this 2-day event as past separate events. Registration for the Expo and a detailed agenda can be found by clicking on this link: https://isahu.org/events/insure2020/

NAHU Certification, LPRT, and Triple Crown

A friendly reminder to be sure and include NAHU Certification Classes/LPRT/Triple Crown in your business plans for 2020.

NAHU has certification courses available as follows: Single payer Healthcare Certification, Account Based Health Plan Certification, Benefits Account Manager Certification, Advanced Benefits Account Manager Certification, Benefits Technology Certification, Employer Sponsored Health plans in a post ACA Era Certification, HIPAA Certification, Individual Health Insurance Certification, Medicare Certification, Self-Funded Certification, Advanced Self-Funded Certification, Voluntary Worksite Certification, and Wellness Certification.

Information on these courses can be found at NAHU.

Leading Producers Round Table (LPRT) and Triple Crown. LPRT was created in 1942 to recognize the successful underwriters of accident and health insurance.  The NAHU LPRT committee is committed to making LPRT the premier program for top health, disability, long term care and worksite marketing insurance producers, carrier reps, carrier management, and general agency/agency managers. The 2019 LPRT application process is closed but it should be on your calendar to apply in 2020.

NAHU created the President’s Triple Crown Program to recognize those members whose individual contributions to NAHU help advance the association’s mission. Like baseball’s Triple Crown, it recognizes accomplishments in three key areas. Both LPRT and Triple Crown information is available on the NAHU website or contact your local chapter President for assistance.

As politics at both the national and state level are in the news on a daily basis I will include a very appropriate quote for this time of the year: If you like laws and sausages, you should never watch either one being made. Often attributed to Germany’s Otto von Bismarck.
