GNIAHU was pleased to welcome Mike Thibideau for a unique and enlightening presentation on the demographics of the approximately 200,000 employed Hoosiers that are currently struggling with substance use disorder (SUD). We learned about employer perceptions about substance abuse prevalence in the community at large versus their own organization, as well as employee and organizational consequences of substance abuse.
Mike also presented suggestions for the components of a Best-Practice Drug-Free Workplace and shared portions of Indiana Workforce Recovery’s Employer Guidelines for Indiana Substance Use Treatment Law (HEA 1007), which is available online: www.wellnessindiana.org/recovery
We were also happy to have Alicia Brown, President of Fresh Attitudes for New Success (FANS) at our June meeting. Fresh Attitudes for New Success (FANS) is a newly-established non-profit organization providing educational services to empower ex-offenders who proactively seek positive change. We work with individuals recently released from incarceration to build skills to find jobs. From resumes to mock interviews, FANS helps build confidence and a positive new start for folks who need it. https://www.freshsuccess.org/
FANS is our chapter’s 2019-20 Charity recipient. Starting with our Annual Golf Outing on August 26th, GNIAHU will work to raise funds and awareness to support FANS mission. Registration for the golf outing and sponsorships are available now on our website!
