By Mike Ripley, ISAHU President
With the month of February normally earmarked for Capitol Conference in Washington DC, I thought it would be appropriate to promote the “Operation Shout” function of NAHU. When you receive an email that says, “Tell your representative…” from the national organization, they are letting you know that a certain piece of legislation has come up that needs input from you. You don’t have to use the exact language that they provide, but if you just want to shoot a quick piece of support or disapproval of the legislation it only takes a minute or two to finish. If you’re really passionate about the topic, you can send the information on to peers. It really is a great way for us to voice our opinions. I would encourage you to use the process even if you don’t agree exactly with the stance taken by NAHU. Edit the message and take advantage of the free system.
That being said, there is little that can have more effect on a legislator than sitting in front of them and telling them your thoughts. Accordingly, Capitol Conference is one of the most critical events that NAHU members can attend, and I urge you to take time to visit the Capitol if you are able. You are sure to make great connections, and you’ll be strengthening the voice of our profession.
For those of you traveling to DC this month, travel safely and let your voice be heard with a “Shout!”
