ISAHU Members – Please review the ISAHU Bylaws, ISAHU proposed bylaws changes, and the updated policies and procedures. The new ISAHU bylaws will be effective July 1, 2019 assuming a majority of ISAHU members don’t object to the new bylaws. Last year ISAHU President Don Griffey established a Governance Committee to make suggested amendments, edits,, and updates to the ISAHU Board of Directors Operating Policies and Procedures as well as the ISAHU bylaws. The Governance Committee consisted of ISAHU Past President Denny Wright, ISAHU President Elect Jeff Goodwin, SCIAHU Past President Andrea Bogard, and ISAHU Communications Chair Amber Frey. Over several months time the Governance Committee submitted recommendations for updating both the Policies and Procedures as well as the ISAHU bylaws that were ultimately approved by the ISAHU Board of Directors. Once the ISAHU Board of Directors approved the new bylaws they were submitted for review by the NAHU Board of Trustees. A few weeks ago the NAHU Board of Trustees approved the bylaws as submitted by the ISAHU Board of Directors.
As you can read from the red line version the changes were mostly grammatical but also included additional language authorizing the President Elect to create a Nominating Committee for future members of the ISAHU Board of Director nominees as well as new language requiring all members of the ISAHU Board of Directors be elected by the ISAHU membership not just officers. Under the previous by laws committee chair persons were only approved by the ISAHU Board of Directors and not elected by the general ISAHU membership thus only being accountable to the ISAHU Board of Directors but at the same time having full voting rights equal to elected officers. Over time the number of chair persons has grown to out number the elected officers resulting in a majority of the ISAHU Board of Directors with full voting rights having more authority than the elected officers and not being accountable to the general ISAHU membership by virtue of not having been elected by the general ISAHU membership.
If you have any questions about the above process, the changes to the Policies and Procedures or are in opposition to the new bylaws please contact ISAHU President Elect Jeff Goodwin via email or 317 691 9086. Thanks for being an ISAHU member!
