President’s May Bulletin

As I mentioned in the April newsletter nominees are being accepted for the ISAHU Board of Directors for Fiscal Year 2020-2021 which begins on July 1, 2020. Please notify President Elect Jennifer Mitchen asap if you are interested in being nominated or wish to nominate a current ISAHU member to serve on the Board of Directors. Jennifer can be contacted at the following email address: jmitchen@maaassociates.com.

Often ISAHU Board members also serve as local chapter board of directors’ members. The ISAHU Board meetings are virtual once a month for one hour. One of the primary goals of the ISAHU Board of Directors is to assist the seven local chapters in being the best they can be for their local members. The broader the statewide representation on the ISAHU Board of Directors the stronger its relationship will be with the local chapters.

Here is an example of what it means to make a significant difference for ISAHU members by being on the ISAHU Board of Directors. At our most recent meeting on May 20th the ISAHU Board took the following actions. The ISAHU Board of Directors voted to extend for two more years the contract with SuperPixel. SuperPixel provides all the management of the ISAHU website and they provide all the communications to ISAHU members. The ISAHU Board of Directors also voted to retain a new lobbyist. For the past ten years Bose Public Affairs Group has been the registered Indiana lobbyist for ISAHU and they have done a fantastic job representing our membership. The ISAHU Board of Directors made the decision to hire a new lobbying firm. For the next two years Torchbearer Public Affairs will be the ISAHU registered lobbyist.

NAHU’s Virtual 2020 Annual Convention, from June 28-30, promises to be the most innovative, productive and fun meeting you’ve ever attended. We are also excited about our new “Grow Your Business Expo,” showcasing innovative new products and services. If you want to make yourself more valuable to your clients, this Expo is where you need to be. All sessions will be recorded, so attendees will be able to participate in live sessions and as many additional sessions as they like. Many events will allow participants to ask questions and interact with speakers in real-time. Please register for the NAHU national convention as well as the regional convention at your earliest opportunity.

Membership in ISAHU, both new and the retention of existing members, is the lifeblood of our organization. Don’t assume somebody else is going to recruit and retain members. It is the obligation of all ISAHU members to spread the word about the advantages of ISAHU membership.

I have two favorite quotes of the month this month. The first one is from Seneca, the ancient Roman philosopher who lived from 4 BCE to 65 CE who said: “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity”. My second favorite quote is more recent and is from the movie The Big Lebowski (1998) The Stranger (Sam Elliott) is quoted as follows: “The Dude abides. I don’t know about you but I take comfort in that”.
