President’s Message

17 Years!

Growing up in Indiana in the 1970’s and 80’s certainly provided me plenty of time playing out doors, so I experienced my share of cicadas, but I just don’t remember there ever being THIS MANY!!!  EW!  I went to the mailbox earlier and was SWARMED!

The emergence of the 17 year cicadas has me thinking… What was going on in the world 17 years ago?  That would be the year 2004, in case your math skills are a little rusty.  I did a quick Google search and thought I would share these fun facts with you!

The ACA would not be passed for another SIX years!  Oh, the “good ol’ days”…

The 2004 United States presidential election is held. The United States re-elects George W. Bush of the Republican Party to a second term as President of the United States, defeating John Kerry.

Mark Zuckerberg launched Facebook from his Harvard dorm room.

Martha Stewart goes to jail for insider trading.

The last episode of the TV Show Friends aired.

The New England Patriots win Super Bowl XXXVIII. The halftime show becomes one of the most controversial events in television history, as Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction is broadcast to an audience of 143.6 million viewers.

Pat Tillman, a former NFL player who enlisted in the US Army, is killed by friendly fire in eastern Afghanistan. The U.S. military does not reveal this to the public until weeks later, after initially saying he was killed by enemy combatants.

Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of the United States, dies at his home in Bel-Air, California, at the age of 93.

And finally… Cicada Brood X (Brood 10) begins in the eastern United states.
