Nominees are being accepted for the ISAHU Board of Directors for Fiscal Year 2020-2021 which begins on July 1, 2020. Please notify President Elect Jennifer Mitchen asap if you are interested in being nominated or wish to nominate a current ISAHU member to serve on the Board of Directors. Jennifer can be contacted at the following email address: email@example.com.
Often ISAHU Board members also serve as local chapter board of directors’ members. The ISAHU Board meetings are virtual once a month for one hour. One of the primary goals of the ISAHU Board of Directors is to assist the seven local chapters in being the best they can be for their local members. The broader the statewide representation on the ISAHU Board of Directors the stronger its relationship will be with the local chapters.
ISAHU has achieved NAHU Gold Certification level. Certification levels are determined by NAHU based on achievements of the chapter in the past year. SCIAHU has achieved Platinum Certification, the highest possible level, and SWIAHU has achieved Gold Certification. Indianapolis/IAHU has achieved Gold status for the second consecutive year. Greater Bloomington/GBIAHU has achieved Silver status. If all seven ISAHU chapters achieve some level of certification ISAHU would be granted Blue Ribbon of Excellence status by NAHU so let’s all do our part to achieve local chapter certification.
Congratulations and recognition should be given to IAHU members James Smith and Dan O’Brien. Both James and Dan have recently retired as ISAHU representatives on the Indiana Department of Insurance Education and Continuing Education Advisory Council. James and Dan have been replaced by me and Susan Rider. Our three-year terms began this month in April. The Advisory Council is codified under Indiana statue. Some of the statue is outlined below:
The Insurance Producer Education and Continuing Education Advisory Council consists of the commissioner and fifteen members appointed by the governor as follows: two members recommended by the Professional Insurance Agents of Indiana, two members recommended by the Independent Insurance Agents of Indiana, two members recommended by the Indiana Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, two members recommended by the Indiana State Association of Health Underwriters, two representatives of direct writing or exclusive producer’s insurance companies, one representative of the Association of Life Insurance Companies, one member recommended by the Insurance Institute of Indiana, one member recommended by the Indiana Land Title Association, and two other individuals. Members of the council serve for a term of three years. Members may not serve more than two consecutive terms.
NAHU has moved our national convention from in person in Chicago to a virtual meeting. I have pasted below the notice from the NAHU site as follows:
The NAHU 90TH ANNUAL CONVENTION SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE IN CHICAGO IS MOVING TO OUR VIRTUAL CONVENTION CENTER
Due to the impacts of COVID-19, it has become inadvisable to hold our flagship meeting in person as scheduled. With the utmost concern for the health and safety of our community, the NAHU Board of Trustees has decided to adopt a virtual format for our convention that was scheduled for June 27-30 in Chicago. While the dates will remain the same, the format will be held online.
We are committed to delivering the same great content and connection you have come to expect from the top event in the health insurance industry. We will even be hosting a virtual exhibit hall for members to take advantage of all the innovative products and services our vendors offer.
We are reaching out directly to speakers, exhibitors, sponsors, and vendors to finalize all of the details. We remain committed to keeping you informed of additional information as it becomes available. You may direct any questions or comments to firstname.lastname@example.org.
We look forward to connecting with you virtually this year !
My April quote of the month comes from former Indiana Senator Richard Lugar as his 88th birthday would have been on April the 4th. Senator Lugar, “Growing up in Indiana, one learns early on that talent and accomplishments count – but honesty and integrity count more.”
