🎉 Today's a great day to get a scone with your coffee, walk the dog, read to the kids, AND ask someone to join NAHU. To get started, have them visit bit.ly/2X8D70m. Each of these tasks takes 10 minutes at the most. Make it happen! #JustAskOne pic.twitter.com/xDujGiwMwr

Women in Leadership serving ISAHU Members

As you may recall, the theme of this year’s ISAHU state convention was Women in Insurance. In keeping with that theme, I want to continue highlighting women in our ranks serving members like you. Often these professional women are working with ISAHU or a local chapter. Often still they work with both. These professional women are serving at the state or local level, often both. This month I am highlighting two women living and working at opposite ends of Indiana. Rita Musser recently retired from the ISAHU Board of Directors after serving for fourteen years, most recently as an officer in the capacity of being our Treasurer. Jessica Croquart recently moved up to become President of the South Central Indiana Association of Health Underwriters. As one moves on another moves up as is natural in life. The following is just a small part of the biographies of both of these successful women.

Rita Musser began her insurance career in 1967.  She began working for Lincoln National Life Insurance Company in Fort Wayne, IN, after graduating from Central High School. In 1969, Rita married Herb Musser (Central Class of 1965).  In their 50 years of marriage, they have raised 4 children – and now have the best job of all – being “grandma & grandpa” to their 9 “grandbabies” who range in age from 25 to almost 12!

In 1969, she left the work force to raise her four children as a “stay at home mom”.  While she was not collecting a paycheck during those years, she worked with the Emmaus Lutheran PTA Committee and helped form the Michigan Avenue Neighborhood Association.  In addition to holding various offices in the Michigan Avenue Association, she wrote the monthly newsletter (on a mimeograph machine!) and served on the Mayor’s Advisory Board under Mayor Win Moses.

In 1989, she began working for Insurance Marketing Services, a Managing General Agency for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Indiana (now known as Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield).  In that position, her primary responsibility was to recruit and train agents to sell Blue Cross individual insurance products (under and over 65) in the northern tier of Indiana.  She was promoted to Vice President of Senior Marketing in 1992.  When Blue Cross (by then known as the Acordia Companies) decided to drop agents from their sales force, Rita began a series of part time jobs (real estate office receptionist, insurance office receptionist, chiropractic office manager and volunteer consultant with the Healthy Lifesteps Program) as she worked to build her own “book of business” in insurance – specializing in Medicare and Medicare Supplements.

In 1995, she returned full time to her insurance work and now owns her own agency – “Senior Insurance Solutions”.  When the Medicare Advantage programs began in 2003, she was the first agent in Allen County to be certified to sell for Advantage Health Solutions, Inc. (one of the first two companies approved to be a part of the CMS demonstration program in Indiana).  Since then, she has been certified annually to represent all Medicare Advantage companies who write business in Allen County.  Since 2005 when the Medicare Part D program began, she has been certified to represent all the major Part D plans being sold in Indiana that allow agents to sell their products.

A member of the Southwest Church of Christ since 1973, Rita has served as a Sunday School teacher, Superintendent of the Children’s Department, Secretary for 3 years, Treasurer for 5 years, and Business Manager of the church’s Daycare Ministry for four years.  While not holding an official office for the past few years, she is on the Missions Committee and handles the attendance records as well as the various government and insurance reports that are due for the church each year.

She has also served on the Board of the Insurance Women’s Association of Fort Wayne (IWAFW) for 3 years and had been on the Board of the Northeast Indiana Association of Health Underwriters (NEIAHU) for 15 years.  She has served on the Indiana State Association Board for 14 years.  For three years, she served as the National Association of Health Underwriters Region 3 Awards Chair.

In 2004-2005 & 2009-2010, she was named the NEIAHU “Member of the Year”.  In August 2007, she was named the “2006-2007 ISAHU Member of the Year”.   In 2010-2011, she was awarded the “ISAHU Volunteer Committee Member of the Year” for her work in organizing and co-chairing the Indiana State Conventions in 2007 & 2008 and chairing the 2009, 2010 & 2011 conventions.  Since then she has also worked on the 2012 – 2015 and 2017 – 2019 State Conventions.  In 2015, she was on the original ISAHU Medicare Summit Committee and has been on the committee for all the events thru May 2019.

Jessica Croquart, MHA, PAHM is an Account Executive at SIHO Insurance Services, where she has been for 8 years. She works with level-funded and self-funded clients to design and manage their employee health benefits. Jessica is responsible for the client’s relationship with SIHO from implementation through renewal, providing service to the plan and its administrators, and working with her clients to design benefits that meet their long-term strategies.

Jessica graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 2012 with a Master’s in Health Administration. She has obtained the Professional Academy for Healthcare Management (PAHM) designation from America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), is Advanced Self-Funded, Self-Funded, Account Manager, and ACA Certified from the National Association of Health Underwriters and is the current President of the South Central Indiana Association Health Underwriters as well as previously holding other offices for her chapter, as well as for the Seymour, Indiana Rotary Club. She actively owns and competes Arabian horses on both the open hunter/jumper and Arabian sport horse circuits and is married with 2 stepdaughters and 1 daughter of her own.

Special thanks to Rita for all her years of service at both the local chapter and state level serving ISAHU members. And special thanks to Jessica for moving through the chairs to become President of the South Central Indiana Association Health Underwriters. Thanks to all of you for being ISAHU members!
